In a house in California nestled snugly on the beach lived a little girl named Megan, who sat peacefully looking at a leaf and wondering why the trees collected the light in their leaves and how the chlorophyll turned them green.
She watched the ocean waves breaking on the sandy shore and she wanted to know why the moon regulated the tides and, why they rolled in and out exactly on time.
As she looked out at the deep emerald green ocean sprinkled with shimmering diamonds from the Sun’s golden light, she saw three shiny dolphins diving in the distance and exclaimed, “What a wonderful sight!”
What a magnificent creation, she thought, is this planet called earth! What a glorious place is this universe!
Silently she watched the golden sun liquefy as it melted into the deep blue sea, and she wondered why the sun, the moon, and the stars all moved in their places, turning the night into light and then back again.
Why do the flowers each have a different fragrance and who determined the red color of the roses and the light lavender of the lilacs?
Why is the grass so green and the sky so blue? How did the mountains get so high, and how do birds fly?
Where do the clouds go after it rains? How does a little seed turn into a great tall tree? Who created the wind, the rain, the seas, and ME?
When did this marvelous universe begin, and once generated does it ever end?
“What do I do while I’m here on earth, and how do I begin to understand all the wonders that I see? Is there a special plan for ME? Is that what they call destiny?” questioned Megan.
All these questions were in Megan’s mind as she walked home from the beach that day. But all the answers were not easy to find, for Megan was only nine.
