The Loose Stone

a three-time cancer survival story

By Mary Andresen Darms
Written in collaboration with Deborha d’Arms

… a survival story of triumph over adversity

This book is the record of one woman’s journey through three types of cancer, eight surgeries, endless test procedures and repeated death prognoses, all through which she made the remarkable choice to live. Mary Darms’ Loose Stone is not only heroic and truly inspiring, but indispensable with detailed appendices packed with helpful tips and information for cancer patients. Highly recommended.

It has been my privilege to have been involved in the oncologic care of Mary Darms. Hers has not been an easy voyage. She has had the courage and energy to become an informed patient and to play an active role in her care. Readers of this saga will find many experiences to which they can relate and, in addition, advice which will serve them well.
Joseph E. Mason Jr. MD FACP, Head of Oncology Kaiser Santa Teresa, San Jose

Mary has so much to share regarding her overcoming and healing of this disease that it is a blessing this book has been written. It reveals that through an unbelievable reserve of quiet faith and determination to get well she conquered overwhelming odds, and is a victor and survivor. This book can be of benefit to those who are well, and those now in the midst of their battles with illness. —Judie Kauffman

Following college, Mary Darms worked for a government agency. She continued in related part-time work after starting a family. During 15 years in retail, she pursued her passion for horticulture through further college education. This led her into landscape design, and consulting for a large-scale nursery, as well as independent consulting. She used her extensive networking skills in retail, connecting extended family, cancer survivors, business associates, and as a crusader for natural therapies. A grandmother of two, she continued to volunteer for the nation’s leading cancer organization, the American Cancer society.
